Re: Tristian Thompson Traded
So we get Chris Dunn and another $9.2M trade exception!
Awaiting Fournier signing next?
If we sign Fournier and run with current roster, I anticipate that we will be at the top near-contenders and not one of the top contenders.

We lost Trader Danny and gained Brad the Barterer.
That's 2 trades in 2 months by Brad already. Now he has to look further down the bench.

NBA Rumors: Celtics trade Tristan Thompson for Kris Dunn
https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-rumors-celtics-trade-tristan-214525385.html
The Boston Celtics are making moves after a quiet NBA Draft night.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports the C's are trading center Tristan Thompson to the Atlanta Hawks for point guard Kris Dunn, big man Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-round pick.
According to MassLive.com's Brian Robb, the Celtics fit Dunn into Enes Kanter's $5 million trade exception, allowing them to create a new $9.2 million exception in dealing Thompson.
A league source tells MassLive that Celtics were able to fit Kris Dunn into Enes Kanter's $5 million trade exception which was set to expire this weekend. That allows them to create a new $9.2 million exception in sending out Tristan Thompson.
Dunn played in only four games in 2020-21 due to injuries. The previous season with the Chicago Bulls, the 27-year-old averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 51 games.
Dunn, the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, adds much-needed point guard depth to Boston's roster. The Providence product joins Marcus Smart and Payton Pritchard at the top of the Celtics' PG depth chart.
Thompson averaged 7.6 points and 8.1 rebounds through 54 games during his lone season with the C's. His departure leaves Robert Williams, Al Horford, Moses Brown, Luke Kornet, Tacko Fall and now Fernando as Boston's current group of big men.
Fernando, 22, averaged 6.8 minutes per game with the Hawks last season. In 33 games, the former Marylan Terrapin averaged 1.5 points and 2.4 boards.

Bob
MY NOTE: This is clever work by Brad. Got a bigger, therefore more usable, TPE AND got the clock reset on it. The Kanter TPE was expiring in a week or less.

From the link:
The Celtics are trading veteran big man Tristan Thompson to the Hawks for guard Kris Dunn, forward Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-rounder, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
However, Thompson isn’t staying with the Hawks. He’s being forward to the Kings, with guard Delon Wright going to Atlanta.
All the players in the three-way deal have expiring contracts. Thompson will make $9.7MM next season, while Dunn will secure just over $5MM and Fernando will collect $1.8MM. Wright will make approximately $8.5MM next season.
The move pushes the Celtics another $3MM below the luxury tax threshold, Bobby Marks of ESPN tweets. Dunn had a player option on his contract and opted in earlier this week, which made the trade viable.
After nine seasons in Cleveland, Thompson played in 54 regular-season games with the Celtics, including 43 starts. He averaged 7.6 PPG and 8.1 RPG.
Dunn’s lone season in Atlanta was a washout due to an ankle injury. He only appeared in four regular-season games, but does give the Celtics another option for their backcourt rotation with Kemba Walker getting traded this offseason.
Fernando, an early second-round pick in 2019, appeared in 89 regular-season games during his first two years in the league.
Thompson gives the Kings some frontcourt insurance with Richaun Holmes entering free agency.
Wright averaged 10.0 PPG and 3.6 APG in 27 games with Sacramento after being acquired from Detroit at the trade deadline. Wright can play either guard spot and will likely slide into a backup role with Atlanta

Re: Tristian Thompson Traded
Dunn exercised his $5M player option on Tuesday. Gone Friday. He is now, officially, an expiring contract. Cannon fodder for Brad the Barterer come March. Package and flip him. Nothing personal but between Pritchard and Nesmith I don't know if Dunn can make his mark coming back right away from ankle surgery. NBA guards will literally run circles around him.
Anybody know what the CBA says about how long you have to keep a player you get like this? Gyso?

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q101
In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:
For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the trade aggregates the player's salary with the salaries of other players. However, the team is free to trade the player immediately, either by himself or without aggregating his salary with other salaries. This restriction applies only to players who were acquired using an exception (and not cap room).
In other words, we can trade him now if he isn't combined with another player. If we want to add his salary with other stuff in a more complex trade, we have to wait two months.

Celtics current depth chart under contract after Thompson trade G: Brown, Smart, Pritchard, Dunn, Edwards F: Tatum, Nesmith, Langford, G. Williams, Parker C: R. Williams, Horford, M. Brown, Fernando
Bob
MY NOTE: Parker's contract isn't guaranteed 100%. IF Brad cuts him by TODAY, 7/30, only $100K is owed. On opening night he gets $1.14M. Still VERY cheap.

Maybe he will find this as the right place and turn things around. You have to give it a shot sometimes. If it doesn;t work, trade

Re: Tristian Thompson Traded
This was a salary dump first and a crafty move second to add a PG, a PF and a 2nd round pick.
The Hawks ended up getting Delon Wright, a player who could have been a pretty solid BU at PG with size for us. The Celtics could have made the trade directly with the Kings. They went this route to save around $3 million.
With regards to the players involved, TT became null and void the moment that the Celtics brought back AH and a promising young center in Moses Brown.
Kris Dunn was a guy that was on many people's draft board a few year back. He has not been able to rid himself of the injury bug. When healthy he has proven to be a pretty solid PG and he is a good defender. Is he our answer to adding veteran PG depth to the team?
Bruno Fernando was on my draft board 2 years ago. We needed a big and he is a big. He played limited minutes for the Hawks. His cheap contract does not hurt the bottom line and maybe he is a less expensive replacement for Semi.
The Celtics are looking to stay below the luxury tax line. Next I expect them to let Parker walk and give EF a low ball offer that keeps them under the tax line or just maybe slightly above it.
They need to move Edwards and Grant Williams in a deal.
I am passing out a B- grade because we needed a veteran PG and instead we got a guy that stays injured. As far as Bruno, he may not see a lot of playing time, Moving TT was a good move because he was dead wood. We save a little cash, added a TPE and got a future 2nd round pick. But I felt like we really needed to get a reliable BU at the point and Delon Wright was available for TT.
Are the Celtics a better team after this trade?

Celtics got Josh Richardson from Dallas for the Hayward exception $ and 2 second rounders. Look for something to happen with Dunn, he supposedly is not staying

Dunn is not staying for sure. Richardson has to opt in to a contract before this can go thru. Dallas clearing way for a move on Kwahi.

Going with my son's take on this one...
"Hey dad, we just traded Tristian Thompson for a bag of chips."
That's about right. Going back to the ball game. Pirates just killing the Phillies.
