I just received a phone call from Jeb. For the past couple of days, he and I have been conversing about some jaundice he's very recently developed. He had thought (actually hoped) it might be hepatitis.

He has asked me to post that it turns out he has a mass in his pancreas, which is basically shutting down his liver function. It's obviously very serious, although he has yet to have an MRI and possibly an ultrasound to determine how whether malignancy may be involved. An MRI is scheduled for tomorrow. It's obviously too early for a prognosis.

He wants everyone to know that he's thinking of us and appreciates everyone's friendship, thoughts, and prayers. Because he's Jeb, he had some folksy ways of expressing himself on this development. But the bottom line was that, though he's of course rather shocked, he's also very determined to take care of this early though hopefully not often.

Jeb has experienced more than his share of challenges in life, and he has come to look upon this board as a source of love, support and stability for him and, I'm sure by extension, for his wife. And he is the consummate board member, combining his unparalleled wit, colorful vernacular, wonderful sense of humor, Celtics devotion, and status as our most frequent poster.

We made an arrangement that I'll keep up-to-date with his situation and will keep the board informed. I told him jokingly that I wouldn't want to be he in the next day or two, wading through all the messages he's sure to receive. There may be people who would prefer to contact him privately. This thread offers an efficient alternative for making sure he receives all communications with a minimum of effort on his part.

I told him how we all love him, and I emphasized that it was not just some throwaway phrase. And, on a more personal note, I told him that my wife and I are looking forward to seeing him again and revisiting all the fun we had together at the San Francisco party.

I'll leave it at that. Anyone who wishes to do so is welcome to contact me in any way at any time for updates, although I'll post them on this thread as soon as I receive them.

I am not a religious man (although I can be quite spiritual), but I'm going to cover all the bases for Jeb and get down on my knees and pray to any and all for Jeb.

It could be a cyst which is bad but treatable. If its a tumor it's 50/50 whether its malignant. If it's malignant THAT'S bad. But people do survive it.

If it is because, besides Sam, you have really been the one constant in making me feel welcomed on the board. I have always felt that you genuinely was glad to see me post.
Because you always ask how Donald is doing, and if he is still a Celtics Fan.
Or, maybe because I actually had the honor to meet you in SF and was able to put a face with the name, and your posts.

I had pretty much given up posting, although I still read the board almost everyday. This my friend is one thread I could not pass up. Simply put, you are worth it. In this game of life there are no colors of purple, green, etc. We are all pulling for the same team. Right now it is team jeb.

Turns out that San Fran party was great thing to have done for a lot of reasons. Not the least of which was that the myth known as Jeb morphed into a human being before the eyes of several of us. It's one of the great things that has happened in the lives of both my wife and myself. Not only can the man eat 50 eggs. He can ride a damn fine bicycle. But most of all, he's about as ingenuous a character as I've ever met.

Which means he automatically possesses the number one prerequisite for doing well in medical situations. Charm the hell out of everyone.

Can anyone on this board imagine Jeb not charming every doc and nurse? That will mean they'll have confidence that Jeb has confidence. Good karma just seems to happen because of that. It absolutely does. And you sometimes get preferential treatment too.

So, Jeb, take your charming self in there with full knowledge that all sorts of energy is exploding here on your behalf. I'll be in touch as soon as it's appropriate. And please tell your wife she's right up there on our energy list too.
