Baller Shooterman signed his rookie contract today, so he's in Boston. Anton Watson is there too. No word yet on the type of contract Watson will sign.
So much for my thought about everybody rendezvousing in Vegas.

Baller Shooterman, great name. I think he is a little of both.

Re: 2024 - 2025 Trades and Signings
I can't wait for the season to start. Just to watch the 76ers implode one more time and the Knicks come up woefully short is more than I can ask for. That's about it for the East for potential Celtic slayers. All the rest are wannabes and at best several seasons/years off/out. MIL may finally find their asses with both hands but they have been the quietest to date, so if you ain't moving forward....you're sliding backwards. Doc, that will be a wrap for your coaching career, buddy. Glad we got your lone title, but this season will be the straw for you.
Out West it will resemble the great cult classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre for who emerges to the Finals. Good luck there. Pretty much every game out there will be must see TV. Thank God for LP!!

Looks like the Sixers have assembled a competitive roster. I would put them 2nd in the East behind Boston.
NYK still need to address their center depth.
Pat Riley seems to have lost his mojo. Losing Caleb Martin to the Sixers for less money is a head scratcher.
Expect the Celts to keep a roster spot open. Several 2 way candidates in the wings

I hope it take the Knicks the entire season just to figure out that the NBA ain't Villanova Senior High. As a matter of fact, I'll go on record as to say it will take AT LEAST 2 seasons, probably 3 for anything of significance to happen and by then it will be too late. The A-Bomb will have been detonated by then.

Everyone got the memo. If you want to really compete with the Celtics you need great wings. That is hard measuring stick because the Celtics have the two best wings in the NBA. Of course it goes well beyond that.
The Knicks were a very good team last year and should also be good this year. They finished 2nd in the East so that should tell us something. We played the Pacers in the ECF. A healthy Knicks team last season is a better team than the Pacers if nothing else than the fact that Thibs had those boys playing hard. Getting Bridges is a significant upgrade. Losing Hartenstein is a downgrade (he got overpaid at $29 million per) Mitchell Robinson is clearly injury prone. Even when they add another center the Knicks still lack center depth and a pass first point guard.
The biggest losers in FA has to be the Clippers. Franks tried to play hardball and he lost. The rich guy should fired him asap.
My hometown Hawks realized that Young and Murray are a bad paring. What a horrible franchise, characterized by bad decisions followed by bad decisions.
Denver lost SG Caldwell Pope. You see what happens when ownership does not want to spend money?
The Lakers figured what a good fit Klay Thompson would be. He apparently saw things differently.
Mavs got that off ball shooter they so desperately needed.
The Heat have no luster. Butler is pissed as is Pat as is their fans. Caleb Martin gave them the finger and the thumb.
The Pacers will still not be able to defend a wet blanket.
Hornets, Orlando, Bulls not legit factors.
Sixers with a lot of wing depth now but the injury cloud hangs over them like an afternoon thunderstorm on a 90 degree summer day. Sixers probably get a top mark because they now have a very legit big 3. They resigned Oubre and signed Caleb Martin and Drummond. Can Embid AND Paul George stay healthy???
The Bucks were doomed the second that Giannis said, ok trade Jrue, I like Damon better. Nothing much out of FA. Just a collection of veteran signings. I heard they are contemplating an Ingram for Lopez trade. Typical. Move your stretch 5.
Cavs got Mitchell to reup however they have the same structural problems as last year. Small starting backcourt, inadequate wings and I got hurt again damit, at center.
I really do not have much more to say about out West.
GSW have turned the page
Lakers still faking it.
Denver still not willing to spend on guys that helped them.
Sacto moves Barnes for Derozan. nothing to see here.
The Suns did they fix their issues?? NO
T'Wolves waiting for a move to part ways with one of their center.
OKC overpays for Hartenstein. He's a BU center.
Clippers suck.
Who am I missing?
Anyways, the Boston Celtics look like the best team in the NBA (Top to Bottom)

Re: 2024 - 2025 Trades and Signings
Great analysis dboss
I’m trying to think who the Cavs have at the 3 and I’m drawing a blank, oh yeah Lavert, but he’s no way near enough to match up with either J.
NO question Knicks loaded up their wing defense with now Bridges, OG and Hart. We have injury concerns with Zinger, but they have same concerns with Robinson and OG. I feel they totally overpaid for OG to match up with us and he has the same injury history as Tyler Herro. Mistake.
Sixers have now loaded up on wings, PG, Oubre and Martin, not bad. For the good of the game hope Embid and PG can stay healthy.
Poor Nuggets, if I was a Nuggets fan, I would be pissed. No team from the West scares me, WC getting weaker.
I’m so glad we have owners that love our history and culture.

Re: 2024 - 2025 Trades and Signings
Yeah, dboss, you added some perspective that I could not get out of my head and onto the screen. The West has a bunch of teams in the mix again but none that I would call a legit contender. They took a step backwards across the board. That leaves the door open.
There's the "Big 3" in the East but it's really us again and then the hodgepodge of the Knicks and 76ers a distant 2nd/3rd clamoring for subsistence. Other things equal, and these 3 finish 1,2 & 3, #1 only has to play one of the 2 & 3, maybe neither last our most recent trek To the victor goes the spoils. Home court and #1 seed more important now than ever for repeat. Doesn't really matter as we were fearless on the road in this last run. I don't expect much to change there. Boston may cherish that record more than Banner 18.
Looking forward to this weekend and watching the newbies!!

It's really amazing reading Dbrown's comment and the media how much the Bucks have just fallen off the map. Nobody considers them a top team. Philly and the Knicks have surpassed them. They have two top 75 all time players and Middleton is good if he ever stays healthy. I think they can compete with the Knicks and Sixers, but agree they have taken a step back. Poor Doc

Re: 2024 - 2025 Trades and Signings
On a side note I'd like to say how pleasing it is to see 6 pages of posts and almost 2300 views for a thread that has only been in existence since 6/20, 20 days. Our perennially longest lasting, and most viewed, thread is the "Around the League" thread. That one starts shortly after the previous season ends, GYSO had already started the new one 8 days ago on 7/2. The 2023-2024 one has 423 posts and 11,311 views, and ran for an entire calendar year! This thread has 38% of the posts and 20% of the views of that one in < 3 weeks, and I think that's great. More posts, fewer Looky-Lous means more participation, more thoughts and, knowing the posters on this board, more high quality opinions and analysis and that's what we want. More.
Interest in this thread will die down as trades and signings become less frequent, perhaps perking up again during the season as trades are announced (or maybe there'll be new threads, like for the trade deadline) but for a short-term thread this one is a winner.

Saddiq Bey signs 3 year $20M deal with Washington.
For a player that a lot of people think highly of it took a week and a half to land a contract for less than the MLE for a team that is over the cap but under the 1st apron. Still more than we could afford but not as much as I thought it would be.

The Heat had the flexibility to match Philadelphia’s four-year, $35 million deal with Martin, but Martin’s camp never gave Miami that opportunity. Martin could have made considerably more money with that same deal with the Heat because unlike South Florida, Philadelphia has city and state taxes.

MY NOTE: 4 years, $45M? I don't know, but it sounds like we just got another "hometown discount". What do you all think?

Boston Celtics sign undrafted third-year forward Sam Hauser to a four-year, $45 million extension
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/boston-celtics-sign-undrafted-third-year-forward-sam-hauser-to-a-four-year-45-million-extension-164426739.html
Hauser's extension is the latest payday for the 2024 NBA champs, as a busy offseason gives the Celtics a projected $225 million payroll next season

The Boston Celtics' busy offseason continues, as the recent NBA champions sign backup forward Sam Hauser to a four-year, $45 million extension, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Hauser, who went undrafted out of Virginia before joining the Celtics in 2021, shot 42.4% on three-pointers this season on 465 attempts, making him one of the most accurate three-point shooters in the league. The 26-year-old forward played nearly every regular season game and started in 13 game this season.
Hauser is entering his fourth year in the NBA. Under the new contract, he will stay in Boston through the 2028-2029 season, and will make around $11 million per year under the new deal.
Hauser's contract certainly doesn't break records, but does push the Boston Celtics' payroll further over the luxury tax. The Celtics are set to have one of the most expensive payrolls in NBA history: Per Wojnarowski, Boston has a projected $225 million payroll next season, with an additional $210 million luxury tax penalty.
The Celtics have kept busy this offseason, signing Jayson Tatum to a record-breaking $315 million contract on July 1 and signing pivotal guard Derrick White to a $126 million extension the same day. Boston will use their newly re-signed core to try and shoot for a back-to-back championship next season.

Business as usual as BS continues to secure this team.
Costly? You bet but a chance to win multiple titles is priceless.

We now have 14 players under contract. Brad is saying, and I believe him, that we're going to stick with 14 until later in the season and it perhaps becomes clear, due to injuries etc, where we might need another body.

Happy for Sam. He is a solid rotation player. Everyone focuses on his three point shooting, but the reason he got this contract is because he plays solid defense. At the beginning of last season Sam got targeted time and again on defense. I was concerned and thought he would a revolving door, but to my surprise he moved his feet and stayed in front of his man. As the season went on his defense continued to improve. Kudos to him for the work he put in. This is well deserved.

Re: 2024 - 2025 Trades and Signings
This last signing keeps what appears to be the strongest lineup in the league intact. That's hard to do year-to-year and represents an accomplishment for the front office.
As always, the next step will be keeping players healthy and returning them to healthy status. Porzingis being the notable standout in this category.
This is an expensive move, but I think it's rare that we'll see this solid of a roster return from any team in the future. The Celtics should be in good shape to hunt down Banner 19 with this kind of continuity.

He also improved his scoring ability, not all 3’s, even catch’s lobs now and can finish.
Credit to him and the coaching staff for putting in the work, our stars are getting better and our role players are also getting better.
