Chris Forsberg

@ChrisForsberg_
“His shooting gets most of the attention – but his feel for the game, defensive versatility, and his consistency as a teammate have allowed him to impact our team in the biggest of moments.”

Celtics officially announce Sam Hauser extension.

Gordon Hayward announced his retirement today. Made his money, got out while getting was good, his family is young, he is still young, and I am sure this may have been decision because he did not want to sit at the end of someone's bench. I will always wonder, what could have been

I agree Ros what could have been. A devastating injury 5 minutes into his Celtic career and he never seemed to get back to full health. He made his money, seems like he has a great family, but still a super tough break.

French standout Guerschon Yabusele signs one-year deal with Philadelphia 76ers to return to the NBA

Yabusele, who previously spent two seasons with the Boston Celtics, averaged 14 points per game during France's Olympic silver medal run

Team France standout Guerschon Yabusele is joining the Philadelphia 76ers, per multiple reports. The 28-year-old French forward has agreed to a one-year deal with the 76ers with a $2.1 million minimum, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Yabusele averaged 14 points per game throughout Team France's stellar Olympic silver medal-winning run. He scored 20 points in the Olympic gold medal final against the United States, second only to teammate Victor Wembanyama. Team USA took the win over France, 98-87.

Two of Yabusele's 20 points came with a massive dunk over LeBron James, making him one of few player to posterize the NBA great.

After starting his career on teams in France and China, Yabusele was selected 16th overall by the Boston Celtics in 2016. Yabusele spent two seasons with the Celtics franchise before going back overseas in 2019.

The 6'8" forward has played for Real Madrid since 2021; per The Athletic's Sham Charania, Yabusele had to resolve his $2.5 million contract with the Spanish team before he could return to the NBA.

Yabu gets another shot.

Hope he does well except when the Sixers play the Celtics.

Well, he asked for a chance here, obviously it was not in the cards. He had a great Olympics for France, the crowd was in love with him. I hope something good comes of this for him, I find it amusing that it is Philly that signed him

Rosalie

Yes he did play very well.  The Sixers are the team in the East that has their sights set on Boston.

NYK are also in the mix but since they lost their center I think the Sixers may be the 2nd. best team in the East.

The Celtics have an open roster spot but it probably will not go to the Yabu's of the eorld.

Rosalie

We had a great time in Boston.  I was surprised how hot it was.  We were there July 11-17th.

Yes I got my clam fix.  We went to Tony's Clam Shop in Quincy (Wollaston Beach)  The prices were outrageous.  Check it out.  I ordered a combo plate with Clams (with the bellies), Scallops and some Onion Rings.  My wife ordered a Lobster roll.  Throw in 2 Lime Ricki and cough up $90.

The food was really good regardless of the cost.

Maine is a splendid place for a vacation (or, as us retired folks call it, a holiday)

The time flew by and I stayed very busy.  I did not get a chance to connect with Bob33.

My friend gave me a 2024 Official Celtics Championship Cap.  That is the only thing that I brought back other than a lighter wallet!

Have a great Labor Day in Maine

32 year old TJ McConnell just signed a 4-year $45M extension to remain in Indy.  So, about $11M/year for a guard on his back 9.  Compare this to the 4 year $30M extension 26 year old Payton Pritchard signed.

This should be a head snapper for anybody who is still not on the "Brad Stevens is really, really good at this GM stuff" bandwagon yet.

I'm a fan of TJ's, I have been for a long time.  He just plays really good, smart B-Ball, and I'm glad he's getting his money but, at age 32, he is who he is.  Payton is on his way UP, he's only going to get better.  They're probably worth the difference in the contract $ now, but in a couple of years I think Payton's contract is going to be considered one of the biggest steals in the league for the Celtics.

Bob,

Payton is already on that list, coming in at #4:

10 best NBA contract values for the 2024-25 season

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nba/10-best-nba-contract-values-for-the-2024-25-season/ar-AA1pFfXm

4. Payton Pritchard: 4 years, $30,000,000
Projected, set to earn $7.5 million annually over the next four years, has become one of the most solid backup point guards. Pritchard posted career-high averages in every offensive category and played a crucial role in the Celtics’ championship run, scoring in double-digits in four out of five games in the second round versus the Cleveland Cavaliers. Pritchard and the Celtics will look to repeat as champions and could be in contention for Sixth Man of the Year.

Sources: Celtics sign Jordan Schakel to Exhibit 10 contract

https://www.celticsblog.com/2024/9/11/24241900/sources-celtics-sign-jordan-schakel-to-exhibit-10-contract-boston-g-league-training-camp

Jordan Schakel will return to the Maine Celtics, where he averaged 13 PPG last season.

By Bobby Manning@RealBobManning Sep 11, 2024, 12:52pm EDT 2 Comments / 2 New

The Celtics signed Jordan Schakel to an Exhibit 10 contract on Wednesday, according to sources. The 26-year-old guard played for Maine last year after signing a training camp contract last September. He averaged 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and shot 40.2% from three on 7.3 attempts per game.

The move fills Boston’s offseason roster for now, with three two-way signings and Exhibit 10 contracts for Lonnie Walker IV, Ron Harper Jr., Tristan Enaruna and Schakel giving the Celtics 21 contracts. Exhibit 10 players, who have non-guaranteed contracts, can be waived at any time and receive a bonus for spending a certain amount of time with the pro team’s G-League affiliate. That means Schakel will likely return to Maine in 2024-25.

A California native, Schakel played four seasons at San Diego St. before going undrafted in 2021. He was part of the Sacramento Kings Summer League team that defeated Boston in the championship that year before signing with Washington, where he made six NBA appearances across two seasons. He split 2022-23 between the Wizards and Warriors’ G-League affiliates, shooting 38.5% from three. He shot nearly 43% from deep in college.

Schakel missed the rest of Maine’s season after his final appearances on Jan. 24 with a knee injury, also missing three games in December. He spent part of this summer playing with Leones de Ponce in Puerto Rico alongside former NBA veteran Kenneth Faried, averaging 8.3 PPG in eight appearances.

Jay Scrubb and the Celtics still plan to agree to an Exhibit 10 contract when the guard fully recovers from ACL surgery this fall, as CLNS Media/CelticsBlog previously reported. That will now require waiving one of their current Exhibit 10 signings.

Kings trade Jalen McDaniels plus one unprotected 2031 2nd round pick to San Antonio.  San Antonio is sending a Top-55 protected 2nd round pick to Sacto.  Spurs are expected to waive McDaniels.  So Kings free up a roster spot, San Antonio gives up a pretty useless 2nd rounder (useless because it's top 55 protected, leaving only 56-60, which have zero trade or roster value) while the Spurs gain a viable 2nd rounder in exchange. It might be somewhere in the middle of the 2nd round but it's a real pick.

6'9", 205#, 6 years in NBA, almost 27 years old.

Game fell off the table last year.  Shot 40% from 3 in 2022-2023 but only 17% in 2023-2024.  His OffRtg and DefRtg BOTH went into the toilet last year.

He played 538 minutes in 50 games last year, so it's not like he was injured and his stats are based upon only a handful of minutes.

Rosalie,

There's rumors running around about the Celtics trading for RWill, but I don't believe them. He's making $12.4M this year and $13.3M next year. Where we are with the Second Apron getting him would be ridiculously expensive. Hell, people are saying we can't even afford Lonnie Walker IV because his contract would end up costing the team around $10M when you add in the luxury tax, and he'd sign for the minimum.

Bob

Looks like the Kings only have 13 players under contract now.

They moved Harrison Barnes as part of the 3 team trade with Chicago with DeMar DeRozan joining the kings.

I think they lost some 3 point shooting. Plus DeRozan is really a 2-guard not a SF. That leaves them with Keegan Murray as their only legit SF. Last season the Kings were #2 in three point attempts per game (39.3) the Celtics were #1 at 42 attempts. As we know DeRozan is no 3 point shooter (career average 1.6 per game at a dreadful 29.6%) Always a bit perplexing that a guy who shoots really good from the field and from the line could be such a hideous shooter from distance.

That is the feel good rumor right now. I have a feeling Celtics would not take a chance on Rob again, they gave him ? how many shots? I love the kid, but he is a bench guy now and my guess is they would say "sorry, not this tie around" There is always the chance he will go to a team like NY and it will bite them in the rear, but woulda, shoulda, coulda. Just do not see it happening Then what happens to the "bigs" on the bench? Someone would go, who??? According to Scal, scouts are out there watching Queta, supposedly 5 scouts in Toronto the other night. Another Scal "I have my ears out there and this is what I am hearing" rumor. Gottal love this guy, He is so caught up on Cooper Flagg, you would think he was his personal trainer

Rosalie,

I'm sure Scal is right about scouts watching Queta.  With Z out, and Al being strictly load-managed, Queta becomes a very important rotation player.  If I ran a team that was playing the Celtics in the first few months of the season, while Z was out or slowing coming back, I'd want to scout him so I know what to expect when I play the Celtics.  Scal makes it sound like they're scouting him to trade for him.  Maybe they are but I don't think Brad's interested.

Let's also remember there was another team on the floor on Sunday and that team is in rebuilding mode.  That means they're more likely to be interested in changing players to create more balance than the World Champions who went out of their way to bring everybody back.
